NPLQ
The RLSS UK NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) is the minimum qualification required for a person to obtain a job within most leisure centres. Some leisure centres will still accept the RLSS UK Bronze Medallion but will expect the applicant to train for, and achieve, the NPLQ.
The NPLQ is offered as the 8th Edition, which reflects the 2012 change to the award. The award is open to anybody who is 16 years of age, prior to the date of assessment. The course requires a minimum of 36 hours contact training time as well as completion of the workbook.
Upon satisfactory completion of the NPLQ assessment, an optional AED (Automated External Defibrillation) module will be available.
The NPLQ is assessed by an external assessor upon completion of the necessary training and when the candidate is of the required level. The qualification is valid for 2 years. After 2 years, depending on ongoing training records, you will either undertake a 'renewal' to re-qualify, or attend a new course.
As a candidate, you will be expected to ensure that you attend all training sessions and are punctual for sessions. Candidates will only be presented for final assessment once the required training has been completed and workbooks completed correctly. There are a number of training exemptions, those being candidates who hold First Aid at Work, NARs PL or RLSS UK Beach Lifeguard. These exemptions need to be discussed with the trainers prior to embarking on a course.
Pre-requisites for NPLQ are:
The training syllabus for the NPLQ covers poolside, aquatic and classroom training. Therefore, suitable clothing should be worn for each session:
As a candidate, you will be required to bring along the following items to training sessions:

NB As we are a training provider as opposed to a training centre, we are able to offer courses at any facility. This means that if you have a pool, then we can bring our course to you.
