Plans for 2008

Well, here we are in 2008 and it seems to be getting off to an exciting start with the purchase of a third boat for the club with the possibility of a fourth in the pipeline. It seems like the boats will need some work doing so anybody willing to do some necessary fundraising or practical assistance, will be gratefully appreciated in the upcoming months leading to the new season.
Meanwhile we are striving to get more of our members qualified in the RLSS 'Award of merit, and 'NPLQ' awards leading to the open water season where hopefully RYA Powerboat and Short Rang Radio courses will be organised to keep the members on their toes.
We are still training the senior 'Rookies' in Bronze Medallion and the success of the 'Save A Baby's Life' courses are keeping us all busy.
2008 Promises to be an eventful and exciting year for the club.
If you know anybody interested in joining the club, just give James a call. 07805 395 222  All are welcome, whatever your ability !

Save A Baby's Life Courses

The new season has seen the restarting of the popular 'Save A Baby's Life' courses in the community. We have some courses organised at Littlemoor Health Centre and more enquiries are coming through all the time. We are striving to get 'Out There' and take the course wherever its required. For more info or to book a course. Call James on 07805395222

The base is now up and running & training resumes

FINALLY, we have managed to erect and furnish a shed to use as a rescue base at the Sailing academy for the remainder on the 2007 season. Bring on the elements!!!
Don't forget, members, Training restarts Sat, 8th Sept.

'Do Something Different'

Well, Thusday & Friday 30,31 August saw the filming of the TV show 'Do Something Different' on Weymouth Beach. The rookie lifeguards were envolved as were some of our members, We even contributed to rescue cover on the day. We managed to take some great photos and have a great time as well, we felt the days were a success if a little slow going. There's no rushing those TV types!

Duty updates 2007

The season has got off to a start at our new location but we are still striving to organise a permanent shelter, ie, a shed! the last few weekends have included assisting windsurfers to shore and generally keeping an eye on the harbour in general. We are still trying to secure more of our members into doing active duty as it's a great way to get used to driving the rib and being part of the team in real situations, after all, its what we've been training for...
Any questions about dutys? Contact or txt Shaun on 0787 190 6077.

Base provided for lifeguards ( Dorset Evening Echo 6/8/07 )

Volunteer lifeguards on Portland have finally been given an operational base thanks to a windsurfing shop.
Boscawen lifesaving & Rescue Club have been given the use of Windtek's slip launch and facilities at the Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy after a three year search.
Windtek's shop assistant, Richard Fabbri, 38, of Chickerell, said the shop was happy to help the lifeguards so they have a permanent base to operate from.
He said: "The Boscawen lifeguards have wanted a base to operate from for ages but couldn't find anyone to help them so anything we could do to contribute to the safety of the harbour the better."
