Boscawen Lifesaving and Rescue Club was founded in 2004 to serve the users of Portland Harbour in Dorset.
We are a group of volunteers who offer lifeguards and first aid services to the local community. We provide a lifesaving and rescue service in Portland Harbour and give lifeguard and/or first aid cover at organised events upon request.
As well as providing on-going training for our members, we run courses for members of the public. All the courses we run are open to the public, although at a slightly higher cost. What's more, our courses can be adapted to suit YOUR needs. We may even be able to run the course at your place of work or, if you are a member of an organisation, at your meeting place.
Due to our active role in providing safety cover for members of the public, it is necessary for us to maintain a rigorous and regular training schedule.
Training All Year Round
Training sessions are based at Osprey Leisure Centre (formerly Boscawen Centre), Castletown, Portland, Dorset, DT5 1BD from 5.30pm-7.30pm on Saturdays. This is split into one hour of classroom based theory and one hour of pool based activities. Classroom activities range from basic life support through to powerboat theory and radio procedure. Pool based activities cover a range of lifesaving skills, including water safety, survival in water, rescue, fitness, and lifesaving sport.
If you are interested in finding out more, you are most welcome to just come along. Alternatively, do contact us for more information.
Summer Training
Training takes place during the summer months (May - September) on the water. Training sessions involve the use of powerboats and rescue boards in addition to lifesaving skills.
